Grange Pilot Project | Halton Housing

We carried out significant investment work to three low-rise blocks of flats on the Grange Estate in Runcorn, as part of a pilot programme, with the help of government grant through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund.

The work enhanced and improved the quality and energy efficiency of each block which will improve comfort and help to tackle fuel poverty for our customers.

All three blocks now have improved low energy lighting, new insulation, modern controllable heating, solar PV panels, and a centralised ventilation system. In addition, new windows and external doors have been installed along with enclosed balconies and increased security systems.

Centralised Ventilation System

To circulate fresh, clean, warm air improving air quality and the risk of condensation, damp and mould.

New canopies

Repair damaged canopies with an easily maintainable solution with a long life span.

New energy efficiency windows

New windows with omproved energy efficiency, a modern look and improved security.

New energy efficiency doors

New fire rated doors for safety and improved energy efficiency.

New roof

Replacing roof tiles to protect the building, extending lifespan and improving the appearance of the building.

New facias and gutters

Improved rainwater dispersal to protect the building from water ingress.

New balconies

Improved safety, easy maintenance and an improved look.

Solar Panels (PV)

Integrated solar PV system with all flats benefiting from energy generation reducing electricity bills for customers.

Environmental improvements

Ground works, tidying up of outside areas to improve functionality, make safe and offer additional security.

Building Fabric Repairs

Repair, improve and replace some external elements of the building that have been damaged due to weathering.

Cavity Wall Insulation

New insulation will be installed to improve the thermal efficiency of the building.

Some of the work to the blocks is supported by a grant from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF). This funding from the Government aims to help social housing providers improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

The type of works supported by the funding include those that reduce carbon footprints by reducing the amount of energy required to heat a home to make it comfortable for occupants.

The aim of the grant is to help social housing providers reach their energy efficiency targets using a whole house retrofit approach, with energy efficiency measures such as insulation, improved windows and doors, low carbon heating and in some cases, energy generation and smart technology.
