Two Halton Housing customers have successfully been awarded bursaries through the Northern Housing Consortium’s ‘Unlocking Success’ scheme.

Earlier this year, our Customer Engagement team promoted the scheme, which was open from April to June. Amongst several applicants, we’re delighted that two of our customers were successfully awarded £500 each.

One recipient, whose promising football career was cut short by injury, shared how the bursary will help him pursue a new career. After securing a job opportunity that required a CSCS card and a driving licence, the bursary came at the perfect time. He expressed his gratitude, saying: “When my mum told me I’d been accepted for the bursary, I couldn’t believe it. After a few awful years, this is the luck I needed. It will pay for my CSCS card, which I need to get a full-time job, and towards driving lessons. It’s so expensive now, so this gives me a head start until I’m earning enough. Thank you so much; it’s a head start I wouldn’t have had otherwise.”

Our other customer Leanne Kavanagh, a single mother starting an Open University course in Health and Social Care this September, plans to pursue a nursing career. She is going to use her bursary to buy a laptop to support her studies. Leanne said: “The £500 bursary from the Northern Housing Consortium will help me with my studies. It will provide the equipment and learning materials I need to excel in my course. Thank you to everyone involved!”

The Northern Housing Consortium (NHC) is a membership body representing over 90% of housing providers in Northern England. Their bursary scheme provides £500 to customers of member organisations to help them gain the skills needed for future employment.
