School uniform support scheme helps over 200 children
A partnership project between Halton Housing, Travis Perkins Managed Services and Citizens Advice Halton has provided uniform support to 68 high school and 140 primary school children from low-income families across Halton.
With the rising cost of living and concerns around the affordability of essential items like school uniforms, the project has helped alleviate the stress and worry many struggling parents will have been feeling with children going back to school in September.
Supported by our partners, Travis Perkins Managed Services, who provided £6000 of funding to Halton Housing, we were able to support customers towards the cost of school uniforms which can average up to £300 per child (according to some parent surveys). Demand was so popular for the scheme Halton Housing provided an additional £4,000 to support as many children as possible.
Gavin Paget, Account Manager at Travis Perkins Managed Services said:
"We're so proud to support initiatives that make a real difference to families, and Halton Housing tenants. Building better communities and enriching lives is baked in to what we do, supporting our customers in social housing".
Citizens Advice Halton provided admin support to process the scheme, which not only provided uniforms, but allowed families across Halton to access support with benefits, debt advice and employability skills to truly improve their lives.
Jo Jones, Service Manger at Citizens Advice said:
“The assistance of the uniform grants was a great relief to many of the families we supported. Some were feeling really stressed and uncertain about how they could afford to purchase uniforms for their children".
During the summer, Halton Housing colleagues donated school uniform items which were distributed across the borough.
