School uniform scheme helps children in Halton get kitted out for the new term
A partnership project between Halton Housing, Travis Perkins and Citizens Advice Halton has provided school uniforms for over 100 school children from low-income families across Halton.
With the rising cost of living and concerns around the affordability of essential items like school uniform, the project has help to alleviate the stress and worry many struggling parents will have been feeling with children going back to school in September.
Halton Housing provided £4,000, Travis Perkins provided £2,000 and Citizens Advice Halton provided admin support to process the scheme, which not only provided uniforms, but allowed families across Halton to access support with benefits, debt advice and employability skills to truly improve their lives.
Jo Jones – Service Manager from Citizens Advice Halton said: “We were delighted to be able to support with this initiative. Every year we see local families struggling with the cost of going back to school and this year has been even worse due to the increase in general cost of living. It was great to be able to help families and hear how relieved some of them were to be getting help. As part of the support, we were also able to help parents and carers with other issues such as managing debt and helping them look for work.”
Gavin Paget, Account Manager North & Scotland Travis Perkins Managed Services said: “Travis Perkins Managed Services are proud to support the school uniform initiative. In conjunction with Halton Citizens Advice, the scheme offers wrap around services and financial advice. The donation of £2000 will provide over 50 local children with their school clothing requirements. The project supports Travis Perkins' commitment, to build better communities and enrich lives.”
Cheryl McCabe, Social Impact and Engagement Manager said: “Halton Housing is proud to have played a part in making such a difference to so many families and is grateful for the support of both Travis Perkins and Citizens Advice Halton.”
During the summer, Halton Housing colleagues donated school uniform items which were distributed across the borough.
