Residents cook up an appetite in cookery sessions
What a brilliant turnout for our recent cookery sessions, as over 30 people in Halton are now leading healthier lifestyles, thanks to the sessions delivered by Fresh Beginnings, and funded by Halton Housing.
Attendees gained food preparation and cooking skills, as well as learning how to get the best out of using a slow cooker.
In addition to funding the sessions, we also supplied all the cookery equipment and ingredients which participants were able to keep at the end of the course.
In addition, all attendees received a free slow cooker and the 'You Can Cook' cookery guide to take home, so that the recipe learnt on the day, and plenty more can be recreated at home.
Georgina Crank, Social Impact and Engagement Officer at Halton Housing who helped organise the sessions said: “We want to help our residents to make informed choices and improve their health and wellbeing, so we were delighted to fund this successful course. This was a great opportunity for residents to learn how to prepare healthy meals on a budget and to change their lifestyles.”
Slow cookers lend themselves to low fat cooking. They are cheap to buy and run, and they work well with low-cost ingredients. They're also great for people with busy lifestyles who can leave a meal to cook while working or doing other activities.
