At Halton Housing, we are committed to maintaining clean and safe spaces for all our customers to enjoy and we do all we can to tackle and stamp out fly-tipping in our communities. Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of large 'rubbish' items - from a single bin bag to a sofa or any other large bulky item. Thanks to strong partnership working with Halton Borough Council (HBC)’s Community Safety & Protection Enforcement Team, a recent incident of fly-tipping in the communal bin storage area at Laburnum Grove, Runcorn, was recently resolved.

Through collaboration between our Estate Services Team and HBC, the Halton Housing customer responsible for fly-tipping various household items was identified and legal action was taken. Despite being given opportunities to cooperate, the offender did not engage during the investigation, leading to a court case and subsequent conviction. As a result, the offender was fined £660, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £264, and the Council’s investigation costs of £281, totalling £1205!

Did you know, in 2023/24, we spent over £18,000 disposing fly-tipping. This doesn't include the costs of our staff time or fuel.
