Our Helping Hands fund supports local dance group, Runcorn Comets
Last week, we had the pleasure of visiting Runcorn Comets, a vibrant Morris Dancing group based at Grangeway Community Centre who were practicing at the Old Police Station in Runcorn Old Town.
The group recently received £2000 from us, after a successful Helping Hands application. This funding will go towards hall hire for practice sessions, coach hire for competitions, and new uniforms for their talented dancers, all handmade by their incredibly skilled Principal, Yvonne!
Runcorn Comets are a well-established Morris Dancing troupe of over 30 years with 75 dancers ranging from 2 to 54 years old.
Their calendar is filled with competitions across North Wales and the North West, including Championships at Pontins Prestatyn in October. Their recent return from the Championships saw them bringing back over 30 trophies, a testament to their dedication and talent.
The group also organises various fundraising events such as Christmas bingo, Easter bingo, and a dancing competition at Grangeway Community Centre. These events not only raise funds to support the group but also foster community spirit, with local residents.
Fundraiser and treasurer, Cass said: ‘‘We can’t thank Halton Housing enough for their kind funding for our dancers, the money has made a drastic difference for us all, it's helped buy new material for our new dresses, shakers socks, ribbons, hair bands, it's also helping towards the cost of transport to our dancing competitions. We can now relax and concentrate on our dancing and hopefully win more competitions’’.
To get involved, call in at Grangeway Community Centre on a Wednesday at 5pm and one of the group will be happy to chat with you, and also check out their Facebook Account https://www.facebook.com/runcorn.comets.new.
