New Community Pantry in Upton
A new community pantry is now available for the local community at Upton Community Centre as part of the Destination Upton programme, supported by Halton Borough Council.
Stocked full of non-perishable food like pasta, soup, noodles, rice, sauces, biscuits, juice and much more, the pantry is operating on a 'take what you need, leave what you can' basis, and could be a much-needed lifeline for people in the run up to Christmas and as the rise in the cost of living continues.
The pantry (photographed) is located near the noticeboard in the foyer of the community centre on Hough Green Road in Widnes, and is available during the centre's opening hours (please check the website for details), so please help yourself if you need to use it.
Talking about the new pantry, Georgina Crank, Halton Housing's Social Impact and Engagement Officer said 'This is one of our Destination Upton initiatives that I am so pleased to see now open, as it's really important that people know there is somewhere they can help themselves to food if they need it, without any stigma or embarrassment. We hope the local community will really appreciate this resource and freely use it when they need it.'
Donations to the pantry are welcome, and gratefully accepted! Colleagues from Halton Housing are supporting the pantry via donations to ensure it stays stocked and available for those who need it most. Food donations can be donated at either the community centre itself (please give it in at the office rather than the cupboard itself), or at Waterfront Point (for the attention of the Social Impact and Engagement Team).
