Mercia Place: The New Name for Our High Street Independent Living Scheme
We have officially named our new independent living scheme in Runcorn “Mercia Place.”
Earlier this year, we ran a company-wide naming competition for the scheme. A variety of names were suggested, and now the scheme will be called ‘Mercia Place’ after Aethelflaed of Mercia, who founded Runcorn in 915 AD as a fortification to protect against Viking invasions at the narrowing of the River Mersey.
"High Street," as it’s been formerly known, will officially be replaced by "Mercia Place" in all communications moving forward.
The project is progressing rapidly, with the steel frame now fully taking shape and providing a clear glimpse of the final structure. Next on the agenda is pouring the concrete for the second-floor ceiling, followed by work beginning on the third-floor structure.
Mercia Place will provide 66 much needed and affordable 1 and 2 bedroom homes for over 55s.
The construction work, led by Legacie Developments, began in the spring and marks our fourth independent living scheme in the Borough.
Mercia Place is set to welcome its first residents in spring 2026.
