The blocks have benefited from retrofit measures including new wall insulation, refurbished roof with solar PV panels, and upgraded ventilation systems. In addition, new windows and external doors have been installed along with enclosed balconies and increased security systems.
Energy and Construction specialists in green energy solutions, Ecogee completed the work on behalf of Halton Housing.
Halton Housing’s own investment in the works is supported by funding secured as part of the wider Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s bid for over £11 million from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF). This grant helps social housing providers to tackle fuel poverty, reduce carbon emissions and increase the energy efficiency of homes.
As a result of the improvements, carbon emissions have been reduced, and it is expected that those living in the upgraded homes will save on their energy bills thanks to an increase in their energy efficiency ratings.
The investment formed part of Halton Housing’s Destination Grange programme, working with residents and partners on a community-led approach to neighbourhood renewal, with proposals to improved green space, facilities, and opportunities for residents.
Gavin Roberts, Head of Environmental, Sustainability and Decarbonisation at Halton Housing said: “The project has achieved remarkable success due to the combined efforts of our partners, IGL and Ecogee, as we navigated the challenges of a tight schedule and limited budgets. Not only do the blocks look transformed, but through close collaboration, everyone involved worked diligently to ensure the project's success, which will directly enhance the lives of our customers and bring positive transformation to the local community.”
Halton Housing is in the process of applying for additional funding from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) to complete work to more blocks in the Grange area.
