Halton Housing takes ownership of Hazlehurst
Halton Housing has officially taken ownership of its largest independent living scheme, Hazlehurst, after building works to the 100, one and two bedroom apartments were completed at the end of last month.
Built by Vistry Partnerships North West, Hazlehurst is located on Actons Wood Lane in Sandymoor Runcorn. It offers modern spacious, self-contained apartments with extensive communal facilities, including multifunction rooms, and a contemporary bistro and provide an ideal option for anyone whose home no longer meets their existing needs, or for those who want peace of mind for the future should their lifestyle change.
There are four one-bedroom apartments, 52 two-bedroom apartments for affordable rent and 44 two-bedroom apartments for shared ownership.
Hazlehurst forms part of Halton Housing’s ambitious plans to build 1000 much-needed new homes by 2027, helping to tackle the national housing crisis.
Eager customers have already been reserving their shared ownership apartments and more than 14 offers for affordable rent have been made.
Customers will be welcomed into their new homes by Halton Housing’s new Hazlehurst team who were recruited over the Summer. The team will be headed up by Rose Armstrong, Independent Living Manager who has worked with Halton Housing for several years across their Widnes schemes, Naughton Fields and Barkla Fields.
Halton Housing Development Project Manager, James Mannering said:
“Hazlehurst is an incredible development and taking handover of the building earlier this week brings to a close 24 months of hard work and dedication from everyone involved. From our own colleagues to our development partners, Vistry, everyone who has worked on the development has helped to bring to life our vision of providing affordable luxury living for over 55s in Sandymoor and I would like to extend my thanks to those people. There has been a huge amount of interest in the scheme from customers looking to secure their own luxury apartment and we’re looking forward to welcoming our first customers to Hazlehurst over the coming weeks.”
Paul Mullane, Director of Development and Sales at Halton Housing added:
“Hazlehurst is yet another example of how we are investing in the future by building high-quality, energy-efficient homes to meet the needs of our customers and provide affordable homes to local people. Despite challenges in the market, working closely with our partners, we have been able to deliver a scheme which will help address the future housing need for older people in Halton, which is expected to grow by 10,000 in the coming years. And so much more than just housing, Hazlehurst provides older people with beautifully designed independent living with the knowledge that any help they require is close to hand.”
Ian Hilliker, Managing Director for Vistry Partnerships North West, said:
“We’re very pleased to have reached the formal handover stage of Hazlehurst, having constructed this high quality new independent living scheme for our partner Halton Housing. Providing affordable homes in a range of tenures – including homes for later living – is essential if we’re to properly combat the nation’s housing shortage, and we hope that the residents enjoy their new homes.”
Hazlehurst is named after local businessman Thomas Hazlehurst who founded soap and alkali manufacturing company, Hazlehurst & Sons in 1816.
An official opening ceremony is planned for early 2023.
