Funding helps local residents tap into their creative side.
Through our Destination Upton project, we recently funded a free 'Photography Basics' and a free 'Photo Editing' course for local residents, run by Digital Arts Box and what a success it's been.
Digital Arts Box is a not-for-profit community interest company which provides projects in digital arts and technology in the local community. Their mission is to provide experiences which inspire communities to embrace creativity and express themselves so, knowing that there are many hidden creative talents among our customers we couldn’t wait to partner with the Digital Arts Box team to help them to deliver these fantastic free sessions for people within the Upton area to enjoy.
The courses were run over a number of weeks, and after overwhelming interest in the course when the dates were announced, the 21 free places were quickly filled by those keen to try creative photography and editing for the first time or simply wanting to brush up on their skills.
People who attended the courses were helped by industry experts, as well as other creative members of the local community to learn everything they needed to know to take and edit the perfect digital photo. The course also provided a great opportunity for people to come together, socialise, share ideas, and inspire each other to learn something new.
The courses were a great success with 100% completion rate and the same number saying they had gained new digital skills and that the course had inspired them to consider signing up for similar courses in the future – we really couldn’t ask for better than that!
Digital Arts Box encourage participants to continue to be creative and develop their skills outside of our workshops – leaving a creative learning legacy which has a long lasting impact so we were delighted to hear that one participant has also since enrolled themselves onto a formal photography course at a local college. Well done!
Thank you to all local residents and a huge thank you to Digital Arts Box CIC for delivering such inspiring courses. You can read more about them here - digitalartsbox.org.
