Mercia Place is ready to welcome its first customers home, marking a major milestone in the delivery of our latest independent living scheme.

The 66-apartment development has now been completed, with the first customers preparing to move into their new homes over the coming weeks.

New images and video showcase the stunning building in all its glory, standing proudly on a former brownfield site in the heart of Runcorn Old Town and playing an important role in the area's ongoing regeneration.

Many of the scheme's first customers are relocating from nearby Brunswick House and Churchill Mansions as plans progress to redevelop the Runcorn Waterfront area.

Built by Legacie Contracts, Mercia Place will provide 66 much-needed social rent one and two-bedroom apartments for people aged 55 and over, offering high-quality homes designed to support independent, comfortable living for years to come.

Located on a long-standing vacant brownfield site in the heart of Runcorn Old Town, Mercia Place will feature modern, self-contained apartments with a range of facilities designed to support independent living. These include a communal lounge, multipurpose room, lifts, EV charging points, accessible parking spaces, and cycle and motorbike storage. 

The development forms part of our commitment to delivering much-needed affordable homes across the borough and the wider Liverpool City Region while supporting the wider regeneration of Runcorn Old Town through the Reconnecting Runcorn programme, an ambitious programme of projects that will collectively improve the lives and livelihoods of local people and boost the local economy.

Mercia Place will comprise 32 one-bedroom and 34 two-bedroom apartments, all available for social rent. Designed with accessibility and future living in mind, homes will feature waist-height kitchens, hoist-adaptable bathrooms, all-electric heating and hot water systems, and modern telecommunications technology. The development will also achieve an EPC B energy efficiency rating, helping residents reduce their energy costs while lowering environmental impact. 

Mercia Place is also the first social rent scheme developed by Halton Housing, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to providing high-quality, affordable homes for local people.

Mercia Place was named following a company-wide competition and pays tribute to Aethelflaed of Mercia, who founded Runcorn in 915 AD, recognising the town's rich heritage while marking an exciting new chapter for our latest independent living scheme.

An official opening ceremony is planned for later this year.
